Speaking of job hunting
Oct 19th, 2007 by Nut
So a very important part of this blog was to get me focused on my two goals: getting published and getting a job in advertising.
But this morning I checked my email and saw there was a job opportunity as a freelance writer for Major League Baseball covering the team I’ve loved for many many years, The Chicago Cubs.
This, my friends, is what you call a dream job. The best part? As I read through the qualifications they were looking for I wasn’t thinking “yeah, that could be me.”
I was thinking, “Wait a minute, that is me!”
They wanted someone passionate about baseball: check.
Someone who knows how to write: check.
Big plus if they were bilingual: check.
A self starter with interesting ideas: check.
That really is the best feeling, knowing that you aren’t adjusting yourself to a position but that the position is actually describing exactly who you are.
No, this is not me losing my focus, it’s me expanding my horizons and possibly setting up an alternate source of income (if I get it, and it wouldn’t start until 2008).
What do you think? Am I getting sidetracked from my goals or is this “dream” type of job reason enough to throw all that planning and discipline aside? (granted I may not even get it)

I know the very mag you’re talking about. The editor spoke to one of my classes… I bet I have his business card somewhere. He also has an MA in Writing… I bet that similarity will give you a good shot. Best wishes!
