Know where you write, Redux
Oct 31st, 2007 by Nut
I’ve written before on the importance of knowing the publication that you are submitting work to and how that can help increase your odds of being published as well as getting you exposed to a wider diversity of writing.
Back then I mentioned a few places where you could get some incredibly helpful synopses about a ton of different literary magazines and journals.
Well, yesterday I found another great resource called Duotrope’s Digest.
Theirs is a much more robust set of data that can be searched by genre, length, media type, and all kinds of other things. While their focus isn’t so much on getting to know what kind of stuff they publish, it’s a great resource if you want to get an idea of which places are “easier” than others to get published.
They compile reports that detail how long each publication takes (on average) to get back to writers, acceptance percentages (The Missouri Review is the third hardest to get into with an acceptance rate of 0.4%(!)), and all kinds of other nifty data.
Just another great way to help writers stay on top of things.
