Reading Classics
Nov 1st, 2007 by Nut
I have never read War and Peace.
I have never read Moby Dick, though I did try to one time.
There are books like these that most people would agree, “You really should, it’s a classic.” What makes you suddenly go out and start reading one of these hundred-year-old books when the authors and good and dead and no one is out there promoting it? Especially when you already have so many books on your “to read” list?
Maybe something like Chicago’s One Book One Chicago citywide book club or something like this article in the Washington Post, which is touting a new translation of War and Peace. The great thing about new translations is you get some of the new-book buzz that might give you the adequate boost to go out there and read these books.
War and Peace is now on the watch list, it’s just way way back there is all.
Have you read War and Peace? What were your impressions in terms of being a “classic?”
