Writerly Links
Dec 5th, 2007 by Nut
I have really gotten into the whole blogger community when it comes to the personal finance and advertising portions of this site. But I’ve really struggled to find (or to look hard enough) other places (blogs) to really link to and interact when it comes to literary writing.
Part of this may be the perception (which I share) that writing is an inspirational, creative thing that can’t possible be chopped into bits and discussed and so on. But I think certain parts can be and it’s a shame I haven’t done more of this.
So here are some good links to get started:
- Flogging the Quill: He does something really neat where he takes a writer’s first page, posts it, and then critiques it based on whether he was hooked into reading further or not. He calls it the Flogometer challenge. It’s cool because he’s basically giving writers insight into how an agent or publisher might react to their writing.
- Writer Unboxed: It’s a great blog that talks about the best way to submit to agents, writing tips, etc. As someone who really likes interviews with authors, I really enjoyed these sections of the site, especially the one with Audrey Niffenegger, the author of The Time Traveler’s Wife. These kinds of insights are invaluable to people like me who love hearing about the habits and thoughts about those habits of writers who have “made it.”
