Following your dreams and money
Dec 10th, 2007 by Nut
This blog tries to tie writing and personal finance together by leaning on the assumption that writing is a poor person’s sport.
And for the most part, it is. But since we’re kids we’ve heard the mantra repeated to us over and over again: Do what you love and the money will follow.
I don’t think that’s quite true, though I do think it can be.
Kiplinger’s has a good article that basically says, “Umm, no” to that whole idea.
The article gives some tips and I agree with the whole concept that you can’t just go after your “dream” blindly and expect to get paid for it. You have to be aware of what’s going on, what you’re getting into, and what the possibilities are of becoming wealthy from whatever it is you’re interested in.
Not that I’m expecting to get wealthy from this site (or even make a cent, directly), but it’s a way for me to be financially aware while I chase my dreams of becoming a good writer. Whether or not I get paid is entirely up to me.
