Reprioritization: Advertising
Dec 10th, 2007 by Nut
Ok so the vacation has me rethinking a lot of things and right now I feel like most people probably will in January: I have a resolution and I’m really motivated to accomplish it.
Now to actually go through with it without getting lazy or losing my focus.
I’ve realized that, for now, my number one goal is to get a job in advertising. So that’s what I’ll be focusing on for the next few weeks (or however long it takes). I really enjoy blogging about personal finance and writing, but right now I need to curb those appetites and just dedicate myself to me book. Which means getting myself enveloped in advertising.
Check out what Steve has done over at Comma Heavy and you’ll see what I mean.
I’m re-reading Pick Me: Breaking into Advertising and Staying There by Nancy Vonk and Janet Kestin. It was really motivating the first time and I think I need to be constantly reminded by some of the stuff in there in the coming days.
I hate to put an impossible schedule I can’t keep on myself (like an ad a day, or something crazy like that) because that’s just setting myself up for failure (like setting an impossible budget), but here’s the idea: do something every day that gets me closer to my goal.
Yes it’s vague and almost impossible to track, but it’s what I’m going to do. Ad Friday is still going to be a showcase for an ad, but instead of working on just one ad and “finalizing” it I’ll post all kinds of ad ideas I have and see which ones get the better feedback.
So from here on out if there is less stuff on writing or on personal finance, that’s why. I’ll still post some stuff on it because otherwise it’ll drive me crazy, but for a few weeks (at least) it’ll be more slanted towards the advertising stuff.
