Creepy Advertising

Check out this article talking about the ad for a new show called Paranormal.
I saw a trailer for the show and thought it was mildly interesting—college kids going out and trying to prove that certain paranormal activity is legit. But this new technology (called Holosonics) they are using for this ad is much more my cup of tea.
It sounds like they’re shooting an audio bubble over a space and directly at people’s “private spaces.” Creepy? Yes. Effective? From the horses mouth:
“We all know what you need to do for one of these shows is get people talking about them,” said Guy Slattery, A&E’s exec VP-marketing. “It shouldn’t be pure informational advertising. When we were talking about marketing the show, nearly everyone had a connection with a paranormal experience, and that was a surprise to us. So we really tried to base the whole campaign on people’s paranormal experiences.”
Check. Here we are talking about it.
I think it’s a great matching of a new technology with a specific product that directly pertains to what the technology can do. And now people are talking about it. Here is the part where the marketer says “OK, I’ve done my job. Now let’s see if the show is any good and can carry us the rest of the way.”
