I Have a New TV
Apr 15th, 2008 by Nut

Last week I wrote about my feelings regarding the new TV that was given to M and I as a very generous shower gift. I got some pretty good feedback so I thought I would share the news that we finally went out there and picked out the one we liked, brought her home, and hooked her up.
It’s awesome. I’m so happy right now—happy in a way I’ve never been before. Happy the way only a 40-inch LCD could provide.
And we still haven’t gotten our HDMI wires (in the mail, I’m not paying $80 for wires) yet, so we don’t even know what she can do with HD channels. So I fully expect my happiness level to get another boost later this week when the wires come in.
Spending this much money (even though it was a gift) was still very hard to do. Especially since we stopped by the library to pick up a book (M is reading Loving Frank for those that are interested) on the way to the store and I watched some homeless men sitting there reading. It hit me pretty hard that, here I was about to go spend a ton of money on a big TV, when these guys had nowhere to go. They were sitting in the library reading a book—trying to make the best of things. And it hit me: they will never know how happy I am. They are stuck doing nothing but reading old, worn books in a stuffy room filled with them. That’s all they really have: books and time to read them.
Meanwhile, I’ll be at home (or recording on DVR) watching the Cubs in HD as they barely pull out another one. With picture quality this good, I don’t need to go to any games anymore, even though Wrigley is just around the corner.
The other night we saw There Will Be Blood and it looked incredible. I didn’t think I would ever be this happy.
Thank you to everyone out there and I hope one day you too can enjoy the overwhelming completeness that I feel today.
Good day to you.
