I don't know why, but articles Like that one always stress me out. It's written to be inspirational: follow these tips and you could be published! But to me, it's: why aren't you submitting anything anymore, you big, lazy sell-out?

Sigh.

I had such grand dreams when I entered grad school, when I covered my first newspaper article, when I applied for my first big job. So many dreams have come true, and so many are just different. I'm a different kind of writer than I thought I'd be, for now.

IMO, writing is a form of thinking--on paper. The best essays or articles are the ones that have done a great deal of living and thinking and put them fittingly into words. So maybe this is rationalizing, but I guess I tell myself I'm doing a lot of the thinking and living right now (and vocational editing/writing and fun blogging/pf-ing). At some point, I think I'll be ready to go back to those other dreams.
