31 Days to Building a Better Blog—Day 5
May 19th, 2008 by Nut

Ready for Day 5 of my quest to build a better blog? It’s simple, I’m just following ProBlogger’s Guide. Day 4 was all about Interlinking Archived Posts.
Today’s task is to perform an About Page Audit. This is a part of the page that I’ve always thought of reworking. “I’ll get to it eventually,” is as far as I’ve gotten. But whenever I read a really good one somewhere else, it reminds me that mine sucks right now. So this is a perfect exercise for me.
A quick glance at my current about page reveals quite a bit: it’s stale, boring, and very link heavy. In other words, not very inviting. Where to start? Well, ProBlogger points readers to his tips for a great about page, so I figure that’s a good place to start. He makes a good point about this being a page that will get read no matter which posts people are reading (although on Day 2 I learned my About tab is pretty invisible) if they find the content even a little compelling.
So I’ve gone ahead and made some changes that bring it up to date, make it a little more useful in terms of giving readers a quick look at who I am and what the purpose of this blog is. Again, as with all of these tips, I think they are meant to be ongoing things you check up on regularly. But this is as good a place to start as any. If you have any tips or questions about the About Page, let me know and I’ll see what else I can put in there.
