Creating a New Phone Application
Oct 3rd, 2008 by Nut
I may not be posting as much in the next few days because the other day an idea popped into my head for a new phone application and I’m trying to figure out the specifics of how it would work, if I could make it myself, or if I could partner up with someone else to make it.
The idea? Create a Google Android application from scratch that lets people share pictures they don’t even know they’re in.
Sound mysterious? That’s what I’m shooting for. I will probably unveil the idea next week, but first I want to do a little more research. I’ve downloaded the Android SDK, I’m reading up on what this is going to take programming-wise (a lot, since I’m a newbie at it), and I’m reaching out to see if I can find a little help out on the interwebs.
So if you or anyone you know might be interested in helping me out or even just giving some feedback, stay tuned for next week. I’ll probably write out the whole concept and what I think it would look like and you guys can tell me if you think it’s a dumb idea or not.
The best case scenario? Someone out there loves the idea, can’t get it out of their head (this is my problem right now), and just happens to be a Java programmer that can team up with me to build it. Even if it doesn’t become a smash hit, I’d still love to have this kind of thing on my phone. But I’m a pictures guy so that’s just me.
Anyway, until then, take a look at two of my favorite phone applications out there?
Midomi, for the iPhone:
ShopSavvy, for Google Android:
How cool are those two? I don’t think the demo shows it, but with Midomi you can even hear what other people hummed or sang to get to a specific song. I played with it for real and it’s awesome!
