Hooking Up Your PC to Your Stereo
Oct 13th, 2008 by Nut

As I was outlining a post I promised last week on hooking up your PC to watch free movies and TV shows on your television, I realized that there are so many variables and things to consider that I should start small and work my way up. So instead of jumping straight to watching movies from your PC on your TV, I’m going to follow up my post on listening to music for free by showing you how to hook up your computer to your stereo. It’ll come in handy when/if you want to tap into your TV later on because it’s basically the same process.
What You’ll Need

Basically, you need this wire, which is called a “headphone to RCA” wire. Make sure the RCA end (red and white) is male and not female. You can get these for cheap on Amazon.com or anywhere else they sell electronics. Just don’t buy it at Best Buy and pay more than $15. Please. And make sure you have enough wire to cover the distance between your computer and your stereo, otherwise the whole thing will be for naught.
What You Do
You plug the headphone end into your computer’s headphone jack (or the jack in the back of your PC if you don’t have speakers connected back there) and the blue and white ends into the back of your stereo. White with white, red with red. Typically, stereos will call this input “AUX.”
Then all you have to do is turn your stereo on, switch it to that specific input (again, usually it’s AUX), play some music on your PC (maybe some Pandora?), and play with your volume settings so it sounds just right.
That’s It?
Pretty much. The video part of this is almost as easy, it just depends on what kind of setup your computer has and what type of TV settings you have. I’ll try and tackle this one in the next couple of days. Now you’re all set to listen to Pandora, Seeqpod, and all the other tunes you have on your computer straight out of your stereo. All for free!
