Money Isn’t Everything: Bulls vs. Celtics
May 1st, 2009 by Nut
Last night I went to one of my favorite places in the city: Wrigley Field. I went to watch the Cubs take on the Marlins, but after about an hour and a half that plan was scrapped.
About two hundred fans (myself included) wound up standing around the concourse watching the Bulls-Celtics game on TV. In case you’re late to this party, this is shaping up to be one of the greatest playoff series ever played.
They went all the way down to triple overtime and thankfully the Cubs went into extras too so they wouldn’t throw the lot of us out.
We screamed, we agonized, we cheered, we held out heads in our hands…and eventually we won. The Bulls beat the Celtics and now the series comes down to one game—game seven—which is exactly where it belongs.
So What?
Before going to the game I took some money out of the ATM and felt kind of bummed because I knew this money would put our budget over the top. By about $15, but still. We’re still saving a ton, just not what our goal is.
And it’s a pretty bad feeling when you don’t meet your goals like that.
But after the game was over (the basketball game) and I was walking out of Wrigley Field, all that guilt went away. All the disappointment went away.
You can’t buy nights like that.
You can have all the money in the world, but there are some things you’ll remember forever and say to yourself, “That was amazing.”
Last night was one of those nights.
And on Saturday we get to do it all over again.

Go Celtics!!! Just had to take a little shot at you.
It sure is good seeing the Bulls court back on tv during the NBA playoffs, reminds me of the MJ days. You’ve gotta be happy about D. Rose, he looks special.
Enjoy your blog, keep up the good work.
Thanks! Can’t wait until Saturday….this has been one for the history books.
Definitely! This has been a great series. I started watching in the 4th quarter last night and almost turned it off so I could spend a few more hours studying, but then I got sucked in for an hour of pure sports awesomeness.
In the back of my head I knew I should have left to go study. But these moments don’t happen every day, so sometimes you just have to roll with it. I don’t regret it.
Btw, I echo RBJ’s sentiments. After months of lurking I finally signed up for daily emails to your site a couple of weeks ago. I really enjoy your writing, so keep doing what you’re doing.
Thanks for the kind words Aron! Glad to have you on board! And I can’t wait for tonight! Let me know if there are any topics you’d be interested in reading about.
