Well, we’re finally back with another round of funny posts that have something to do with money.

Feeling a little discouraged today with the meager entries even though I waited a long time for this round of the carnival to go up. But you know what always cheers me up?

Len Penzo presents Why “Coke Rewards” Is For Suckers posted at Len Penzo . Com. Len has a serious problem and he needs help to get off his version of smack.

Welcome to the fifth edition of the Comics and Cents Carnival, where we’re out to have a little fun as we write about money. The stock market keeps taking dive after dive but we won’t mention it here.

We prefer to ignore the problem and watch funny videos like Ninja Cat here:

As an aside, hosting this Carnival is what inspired me to write this post, which is on one of the premier blogging sites in the world. So I’ve learned quite a bit from hosting this carnival, especially about creepy clown pictures.

jim presents 5 Infallible Ways to Lower Your Income Taxes posted at Blueprint for Financial Prosperity. Please don’t follow Jim’s tips on cutting your taxes…you’re just begging for trouble.

Abigail Perry presents I’ll scrub your back, if you scrub mine posted at i pick up pennies. I never really considered the financial advantages of showering together…don’t worry it’s totally safe for work.

As an added bonus, I’m going to point everyone to a post by J.D. Roth on Get Rich Slowly called Should CNN Replace Stock Analysts—With Cats? He doesn’t really do carnivals, but I had to at least link to it. The picture alone is worth the trip.

Comics and Cents Carnival: Baby Come Back

We’re back for another week of humorous money posts. Since I felt so guilt last time around for playing God and deciding what was funny and what wasn’t, I wrote a post about begging that I would send in to the carnival—you be the judge whether it merits being included or not.

Anyway, to kick things off, here is one of my favorite recent commercials: they’ve taken a boring product and made me laugh. A lot.

So this week we have even fewer posts to include in the carnival, so I’m going to have to change the way I do this. I tried getting the word out there a little more and that obviously didn’t work. Instead of making it 7–10 days between carnivals, maybe I’ll do 2 weeks+ or something. That way we can have a real listing of funny posts.

While I’m at it, do your part and tell the world to submit the funniest stuff they have!

PatrickCML presents New Stock Market Terms posted at Cash Money Life. I typicall hate glossaries—they’re dry and boring. But here is one that rings true and is entertaining at the same time.

RC presents Top Ten Ways To Aggravate Your Spouse or Significant Other With Your Frugality posted at Think Your Way to Wealth. Here is an old post that goes for that David Letterman zing.

WC (me) presents Money Saving Tip: Street Begging posted right here on The Writer’s Coin. After I wrote it I felt a little guilty—it’s not really a funny thing to be reduced to begging, but whatever. We need all the posts we can get here.

An interesting fact: 80% of the submissions I got were actual PF articles that dealt with real issues. Read the carnival info people!

Money Saving Tip: Street Begging

In the spirit of being the host of the Comics and Cents Carnival, I decided I would write the kind of post that I’d like to receive as a submission, just to hold myself accountable for every time that I read submissions and get to play God—deciding what’s funny and what’s not. It’s a serious business.

The next issue comes out on tomorrow Saturday so submit your stories today!

You’ve read all about the different tips and schemes that are out there to help you do boring stuff like “meet your budget” and “pay yourself first.”

Well, la-dee-da, Mr. Fancy Pants.

I’ve got a real system that will not only help you save money and meet your precious budget, it’ll actually make you some money too!

Begging: It’s the New “IT” Thing

You may not have read it in your precious People magazine yet, but begging is the new black. Pretty soon you’ll be seeing your favorite Hollywood star on a sidewalk near you with a creative sign asking for “a little help.”

Why is this? Haven’t you been watching the news, moron? Wall Street has collapsed, banks are going to be owned by the government, and pretty soon we’ll all be using rice as currency instead of money. This is just the new reality of things. Get used to it.

And that’s why I’m here: to help guide you, the novice, through the treacherous waters of sidewalk begging. If you want to generate the most bang for your buck, here is what you need to do:

Be Different: You’re gonna be competing with a lot of people out there that are way prettier than you, smarter than you, and just overall better than you. So find some way to make yourself different.
Pick a Persona: Are you the one people feel super sad for? The guy who is honest and admits he’s gonna buy a drink with whatever change you give him? You can’t be everything to everyone, so pick your niche and master it.
Spend Time on your Sign: Your sign is going to identify you and brand you, so to speak. So spend a little time thinking about it before you go out and steal a box and a marker. You may not find another box, so you’ll have to make this sign a good one. Some favorites (though not original): “Very hungry,” “Stranded, HELP!” “Happy Hour is Coming,” HUNGRY,” and “GIMME.” Again, know who you are before you create your sign.
Juggle: In some third-world countries you’ll see people doing “tricks” to make the begging feel more like performing. My suggestion? Don’t juggle well, even if you can. Go for the pathetic angle: juggle with just one lemon (or ball, or whatever)—people will be like, “Oh wow, he doesn’t even have two balls to juggle with. Hon, pass me that quarter.” Ka-ching!
Outsource: Align yourself with a gang of small children and have them do the begging for you. Then at the end of the day, round them up and pick their pockets clean. Don’t forget to tussle their hair so they think you “care” about them and don’t turn on you.
Don’t Pretend You Aren’t Begging: This is the cardinal sin of begging—don’t do it. “Excuse me sir, sir, if I could just ask you a question? I’m not asking for money sir, I just…” We’ve all been there, and sometimes we fall for it, until five minutes later it becomes “my kids are hungry and…” Don’t do it….just be up front.
Use your kids: Whether you have them or not, the thought of Lil’ Billy sitting at home with a rumbling stomach is one way of gettin’ people to pay up. Use your imagination and have some fun with the names too. It’ll help pass the time.

I could go on and on with these tips, but then we’d both be wasting time that we could be using to go out and beg! Good luck out there and remember: when the going gets tough, the tough get on their knees and beg.

Comics and Cents Carnival: Second Edition

Welcome to the second edition of the Comics and Cents Carnival! It’s exciting to have gotten more of a response this time around then last week—it seems there are a few of you out there that want to have a little fun with money, especially with the way the market and the economy is going.

Well, there are still people submitting articles that are pretty insightful and interesting, but not a lick of humor in them. To you I say “Stop it!” We’re up from four posts to five so that’s progress. And I feel bad judging what’s funny and what isn’t, so maybe I’ll write a post myself for next time to give everyone an idea of how unfunny I can be and then this will be less awkward.

Sound good? Oh and also: I’m going to try to promote this carnival more so we can get more submissions and make it better, bigger, funnier. If you’re here, please do the same and bring some laughs to the personal finance world!

New Carnival: Comics and Cents

Welcome to the first ever edition of the Comics and Cents Carnival! This is a carnival I started myself because I love to laugh and I write about money, so I figured it would be cool to see what kind of funny people could blend into their posts.

Suffice to say, we’re starting off with a whimper. Most people didn’t “get” that their posts were supposed to be funny, so that’s why there are so few posts included. Hopefully next week’s edition (the 21st) will ramp it up a notch.

As a reminder, this is funny. This is not. Got it?
