I’ve whined about not dedicating enough time to my fiction or to other writing pursuits before. Mostly it’s because of the time it takes me to write daily posts for this blog.

Now, let’s be honest, posting on a daily schedule can be a great idea or a terrible idea. I think, for me, it’s not the best thing. I’ve gotten hooked on posting something—anything—every day and I wind up neglecting the other ideas I have in my head. Believe it or not, one of those other ideas is another blog, but it’s totally unrelated to money and it feels good to split my time between that and personal finance.

Once I have more of a footing (and more posts) I’ll let everyone know what the new site is about, but it’ll be about my “other” passion: baseball.

I’ve been thinking about this a lot, and the model I’m going after is Ramit of IWillTeachYoutobeRich fame. He doesn’t post on a fixed schedule (that I can tell), only when he has something really worthwhile to say.

So if you see a new post from me, it means I think it’s really, really, really good.

That’s right: three reallys.

Instead of forcing myself to post something, anything, I’m going to hoard these ideas and only publish the very best ones. The idea is to make the content better and to give me time to write for the other blog.

As for my fiction….you may have to keep hearing me complain about it. Oh and one more thing: if you have any recommendations for a great novel to read, please pass it along. I’ve been struggling to find something I’m really into lately.

In terms of book suggeestions – it’s depends on what you like.

I love JD Robb as an author – she has a series (the ‘…in death’ books). Quite brilliant!

  2. Nut, I came to this decision recently too. I’ve posted way too frequently for my liking. As a result my posts were lacking depth.

I still commit to writing one post a week. If I had no schedule I’m not sure i’d post at all.

Keep going though. I like your stuff, and look forward to more. I’d hate to see your voice fall by the wayside.

Thanks Nate! I think you bring up a great point about having some kind of schedule, and it’s something I need to figure out. Thanks for the kind words!

  4. Be sure to link to your baseball blog when you start it. I can’t wait to subscribe. (Go Reds!)

In case of feeling the need to read fiction, go classic is all I can say. H.G Wells, the Sherlock Holmes stuff, the Old man and the sea, to name a few.

No time to read fiction now, there are way too important books to not miss out there. Read the ecology of commerce by paul hawken or hot, flat and crowded by thomas friedman, or both. Great books.

My brother gave me a copy of The compounded history of infinity: everything and more, by David Foster Wallace, i hear he is your favorite, maybe you´ve already read this. I´m having trouble with reading about math for more than 10 pages without feeling the need to sleep. Don´t tell Tollo.

I am feeling good since I have just written to President Obama about the futility of the war on drugs, and how the policy needs to be revised. There is this ¨contact us¨ box you can click on at http://www.whitehouse.gov and I hear it´s some guys´ job to read ´em all and pass along one to three a day for the president to read. I sure hope he reads it. If not, I´ll have to go visit him at his house to let him know what i think.

    SALUD!

P:S. Investing in sustainable enterprises will yield the best long term result, according to me. (I say it since this site is so obviously about personal finance)…

    You have my support.

I’m having the same problem right now with my own pursuits. Full time job, a growing part time side biz, 25+ hours a week studying for an exam in July, and then trying to spend quality time with my wife. And since I am unfortunately one of those people who need a full 7-8 hours of sleep every night to function, I just do not have enough hours in the week. It’s nuts.
