I’m Getting Married
Yup, I’m tying the knot. Today M and I will drive out to Michigan and meet up with all my family that’s flying in and on Sunday we’ll get married. It’s been a long year since I proposed and I can’t wait for it to finally happen.
At first, I just wanted to get it over with. People ask you over and over if you’re nervous and if you’re “ready.” Those questions are about a year too late. I usually answer with something like “I just want our lives back.” There’s a lot of work and stress around getting married. But thanks to our parents, we won’t be going into debt or anything crazy like that to pay for it. Otherwise we would be having a much smaller affair.
Yesterday I was rethinking my answer to the question, though. I guess I should enjoy the ride since this is one of the very few times in your life that you are the center of attention and everyone wants the best for you. So now I’m really excited about seeing my friends, family, and enjoying the ride. After all, it only happens once in your life.
It’s funny, but I’m more nervous about things like setting up a budget that works for both of us and saving up for a down payment. As far as finding “the one” and all that stuff, I know where I’m at and have no doubts at all. So I guess I’m lucky like that. Anyway, if the other married folks have any pearls of wisdom to share out there I would love to hear tips, advice, etc.
With that, I leave you with one of my favorite commercials from the point of view of a writer:
[By the way, the picture at the top is from the photographer that will be at our wedding, so feel free to click on it and check out her work]
