My routine

Just over a year ago I realized that I hadn’t gone to the gym in a while so I got really down on myself for being lazy and wasting money on a gym membership.

So I rededicated myself and went to the gym every day before work, five days a week. It lasted about a month because in November I participated in National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) for the first time.

But now I had to find time to write, so I kept getting up early and instead of going to the gym I went to a coffee shop and wrote 2,000 (ish) words a day.

That lasted a month. But after that, my body realized, “Hey, I don’t need all that sleep I previously thought was essential. Plus it feels good to get up early and work on something on the side.” It was (and is) very satisfying.

The routine stuck. I get up every day at 6:15–6:30 and write/read (if I’m feeling lazy)/go to the gym/blog. I do that for about an hour and a half, then I get ready to go to work.

I always wonder about how other bloggers find time in their busy lives to post as much as they do. Well, this is how I do it.

If you also blog (or do anything else on the side), what’s your routine like?

Oh, this is such a good topic. I would love to know what other people think.

For me, I blog whenever I feel like it. It seems to come in waves: I’m totally into it for a few weeks, then I get busy with other things for a while. In total, I participate in five blogs currently, two for my job. It’s too much. I will probably need to delete one soon.

One thing I’ve been doing at work is writing a big chunk of posts ahead of time and forward-dating them. Then for a whole week, I won’t have to worry about it. I’m trying it a little on This Writer’s Wallet. We’ll see if I stick with it.
