Picking my next book—the results

Well, I don’t know what I expected when I had my “readers” pick my next book, but in my dreams I hoped hundreds of people would be compelled by this incredibly original idea (which it really isn’t) and the chance to help out a reader who has been struggling to find a great book to read (did I mention I quit Duma Key?).
Alas, I got eight comments (which is a lot for me but still, two of those were my own) and the de facto winner was Interpreter of Maladies, by Jhumpa Lahiri. Once I get through my huge stack of New Yorkers that has once again managed to pile up, I’ll start it and post my review here. I’m excited because I really loved The Namesake and one of her stories in The New Yorker was actually pretty good (which is rare), so this was a good choice by the three people who voted for it. Thanks guys.
Any suggestions on how to get more people involved in this? I wanted to post a poll instead of doing it via the comments section but I still haven’t figured out the wp-polls plugin so it’ll have to wait. I definitely want to do this again even though M would throw a fit if she knew—I rarely read the books she recommends to me so let’s keep this between you, me, and the six people who read this blog, shall we?

so i missed the initial poll, but would have voted for The Kite Runner. Why don’t you go ahead and put that as the next book on your pile, and underneath that put Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell.
