Some Changes Around Here
So I’ve been in a funk for the last few days: I haven’t felt like writing anything and nothing has captivated my interest.
But yesterday I went for a run (this year’s Urbanathlon is on Saturday) and found my zen. I had an epiphany of sorts about this site and my writing in general.
When I first started blogging, it was for two main reasons: I wanted people to read what I had to say and I wanted to make some money. That eventually evolved into me trying to make some money. It took a lot of time and work to get this site to where it is, and I felt like I deserved some compensation.
And I have made a little bit of money. I’ve tried to squeeze as much juice as I could out of it by placing links in strategic ways, writing about certain topics, etc.
And you know what? It’s kind of boring. I’d rather just write about the things I’m passionate about and use this site as a place to hone my writing and say what I really want to say instead of what I think people want to read about.
In other words, this is going to be more of a soap box for me. And why not? It’s my site, and I’ll do whatever I want to on it.
I took down the ad that runs at the top of each post and I’m considering going back to just one sidebar—I want the focus to be on the content, not the ads.
Anyway, I don’t want “credit” for this or anything, but in the spirit of this being the place where I say whatever the hell I want, I’m saying it.
Over and out.

Good stuff man! I commend you for your openness and initiative!
I think you’ll find it very liberating writing purely for yourself and NOT for money. If people like what you write, fine. If they don’t who cares it’s your site.
When you’re driven by money, I think we lose the purity of our writing.
I am only putting up ads I truly believe in and would click and sign up myself. Otherwise, fuggetaboutit.
