Video Game Fan? Save Some Money
I like playing sports video games. It used to be baseball and football mostly, but soccer is also a sport a grew up playing so that’s always fun to play. Now that I have a Wii, I’m looking at which games I would want to own. I already bought Madden 08 but still haven’t gotten a baseball or soccer game.
So on Friday I was looking to see if there were any good deals out there to be had on the games I’m interested in: MLB 2K 08 and Pro Evolution Soccer. According to the reviews, both games are really good but there are one or two features that aren’t optimal. Which leads me to believe next year’s version of these games will be even better.
And I’m probably not going to buy either of them (I can’t even find time to play the games I already have), but I still think it’s fun scouring for deals. And here’s one I found that was right up my alley via Pricegrabber: I buy the game from any of the merchants that Pricegrabber has listed for the game I want (Pro Evolution Soccer, in this case, at $36, which is really good), and then I write a review for their site. That nets me a $5 coupon, which takes the total price of the game down to $31, which is fantastic for a game that costs $40 at Best Buy. It’s even cheaper than buying it used on Amazon (around $33 after shipping).
The cool thing about this deal is that it combines my video-game interests with my love of writing. And of course it gives me the best deal out there, which means I can put it up here on this blog and not feel guilty that I’m writing about something that, while I find interesting/fun, has nothing to do with my “niche.”
Any other sports fans out there try these games? Any recommendations?

I’ve wondered how Madden would play on the Wii. I still play it and NCAA College Football on my old original Xbox, but since we purchased a Wii I’ve yet to buy this type of game. I’d be interested to hear what you and others think of them.

Madden 08 is getting a lot of flak for some bugs (I believe mostly for online play) compared to the 07 version. Honestly? I haven’t encountered any of them, but I”m not a hardcore football or Madden fan, so I wouldn’t know. Plus I haven’t tried playing online yet. But otherwise it plays a fun game of football and the graphics aren’t that bad.
